Things to know before signing a contract...
How do you pick a good contractor?
- Solicit at least three bids.
- Never go with the lowest bid. It might cost you more in the long run.
- Interview each contractor. Look for someone you are comfortable with, who best understands your needs, and whom you communicate well with.
- Ask for references.
- Never give more than 25% deposit and review the payment plan before signing the contract.
Other Helpful Hints...
- Don't let anyone force you to sign anything right on the spot. They only see you as a "cash-cow" and don't care about the job, just the money.
- Find out if they use sub-contractors. Make sure you know who is actually doing the work and that they are all fully insured.
